While the Nittnaus family has been in Burgenland, Austria since 1684, the current Nittnaus estate was established in 1927 by Hans’s grandfather, Johann Nittnaus and taken over by the current generation Anita and Hans in 1985 which they have embraced biodynamic agriculture in their vineyards since 2007.
2019 Cuvée ‘Kalk & Schiefer’ BURGENLAND
A ‘trio blend’ of white grape varieties, that speaks by itself: Weißburgunder, Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner. A wine that tells a tale of different flavours and events that happen on your palate. Spicy, aromatic, mineral and a very nice firm structure and balance on both nose and palate.
2018 Blaufränkisch, ‘Kalk & Schiefer’ BURGENLAND
It’s by far the most interesting Blaufränkisch I have ever had in a very long time. The moment you get your nose in the glass, it’s a wine that invites you to taste it. Beautiful bouquet of violets, rose petals, cherries, melted chocolate and a touch of pepper and smoke. On the palate starts beautifully with ripe cherry and some beetroot flavours, followed by a pleasant peppery tone. Delicious and definitely a potential to improve in the cellar.
2017 Blaufränkisch, ‘Ried Joiser Altenberg’ LEITHABERG DAC
Dense, complex, intense and an intelligent made Blaufränkisch. Extremely elegant, with flavours of blueberry and blackberry, gently pepper spice and a subtle chocolate finish, which makes it loaded with flavours that are in perfect balance.
''At the end of the day, you really can’t make a wrong choice.
As long as you pay attention to what it is that you don’t like about a wine
each bottle will get you closer to what you do like.
Take it one glass at a time!''
